Youth training, school teams and courses 39

Learning chess around Stuttgart mostly means joining the youth training of a club. Many clubs teach children and juniors in the hour or two before their club night, often in groups by playing strength, and take them to youth leagues and junior tournaments. Schach-Kids Bernhausen in Filderstadt is a club for children alone, and its junior team has won the Baden-Württemberg title of its age group.

For adults, TSV Münchingen and Schachclub Stetten add adult training to their evenings, and the University of Hohenheim's sports programme offers beginners' courses on Monday evenings, with registration. Schools appear here too: the Karls-Gymnasium, the Königin-Katharina-Stift-Gymnasium and the Grundschule Altbach send teams to the German school championships, the Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium in Weil der Stadt runs a weekly working group, and Deizisau hosts the open Baden-Württemberg school cup each summer.
